Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is just one tool I use in my Empowerment Coaching Program. EFT has totally changed my life, so I know how effective it is at healing the past and transforming your life.
I’ve had my share of ups and downs over the years and I’m no stranger to feelings of depression, low self-worth, and the effects of trauma. Along my journey, I found EFT and it completely altered my life. I learned to re-connect with my authentic self, shed old patterns that kept me stuck, make peace with my body, and create abundance in every area of my life.
This healing brought me to my purpose, gave me back my personal power, and created a sense of inner peace within me. It doesn’t have to take years to transform your life. You don’t have to stay stuck.
What exactly is EFT? Well, EFT is a simple, non-invasive, meridian-tapping technique to help release blocked energy from the body that results in negative emotions. Gary Craig, the originator of EFT, developed this technique based on the principle that all negative emotions are related with a disturbance in the body’s energy system. According to Craig, “The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system.”
EFT is sometimes called an emotional form of acupuncture as it draws on ancient Chinese medicine and the energy meridian system of the body. Gentle finger taps, instead of needles, on acupressure points on the face and hands, open up the energy circuits of the body. Once blockages have been removed, energy can flow freely and return balance to our systems. If we think of our energy meridians as streams running through our bodies, “rocks” and “boulders” create blockages that slow the free flow of water through our energy streams. By removing these impediments, the blockages dissolve and the water once again flows freely and easily.
Throughout our lives, we all experience many disruptions to our bodies’ energy system. When these disruptions occur, we internalize perceived negative behaviors, statements, or actions and draw conclusions about ourselves or about the world in which we live. Some of the beliefs that we created early on in life, such as ‘I’m not good enough’, form part of our core belief system. These negative thoughts limit us throughout our lives wreaking havoc with our emotions and bodies. Through the simple process of tapping, we shift our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to become more positive. As we consistently do this, we shed core negative ideas and rewrite them into new, positive beliefs.
When you’re experiencing a negative emotion, your brain is on high alert. This negative emotion signals a primitive part of the brain called the amygdala, sometimes referred to as the fire-alarm in the brain, to send us into a fight-or-flight response. In prehistoric times, this was an advantage because when there was a threat, like a predator chasing us, our muscles would tense, adrenaline would pump, our blood pressure and blood sugars would rise so we could either stand and fight or turn away and flee. In modern day society, most of our stressors are triggered internally as negative emotions, which have their roots in our core negative beliefs. To our system, the perceived threat is just as real to the amygdala and the same physiological responses occur. By performing EFT, the amygdala is deactivated and this, in turn, sends a calming response to the body.

What is a typical session like with me?
I’ll lead you as we tap on the acupressure points of the face and torso while repeating the statements and reminder phrases. As negative beliefs are released and replaced with new positive beliefs, the benefits can be astounding. As with anything, this is a process and takes work and patience, but the positive effects are long-lasting. Typical sessions last between 1- 1 ½ hours and can either be done in person, or by phone/ skype.
In recent years, we’re seeing more and more research that indicates the efficacy of EFT and explains why the techniques work. My own personal journey with EFT has led me to experience more inner peace and feel empowered to create a life full of purpose and passion.
